Three Day Special Educational Needs Teachers' Course
DO YOU WANT TO GIVE YOUR STUDENTS THE CHANCE TO GAIN A RECOGNISED QUALIFICATION IN DANCE?
BTEC (Level 1) in Language of Dance® Motif Notation for Special Educational Needs Students
Using Motif Notation symbols the Language of Dance course will give students the chance to achieve measurable skills in dance, learn movement vocabulary and develop choreography and this will improve fitness and coordination, encourage social and communication skills and build self-confidence.
Addressing kinaesthetic (through the movement), auditory (through correct terminology), visual (using visual motif notation symbols), reading/writing (by writing down dance symbols) learning styles, classes can be adapted to suit students of all level and allow for measurable progression.
A short specialist course, BTEC in Language of Dance Motif Notation has been running at Brockenhurst College since September 2009. Although, over the past six years, special educational needs (SEN) students have been experiencing this approach to creative movement, the BTEC, tailour-made for Brockenhurst College, gives them the opportunity to gain a qualification accredited by a recognised awarding body.Having developed the course and established it at Brockenhurst College, we are now in a position to help other teachers to offer the course at their own school or college. Read the article BTEC in Language of Dance Motif Notation Course (level 1) for Special Educational Needs Students (DanceMatters, National Dance Teachers Association, Summer 2011) (PDF opens in new window) to find out more about the qualification.
The LODC is now offering a three-day intensive course for teachers of students with physical disabilities and/or special educational needs who work within schools and colleges offering BTEC courses or schools/colleges associated with BTEC.
At the end of the course teachers will have the knowledge and resources available to deliver LOD in schools/colleges. Following an additional assessment and recommendation by an LOD specialist you will have the opportunity to deliver the accredited course to your students.
