Dance Discover Project
The Dance Discover project provides good quality, fun and innovative dance enrichment activity within Special Educational Needs Schools.
The project aims:
To encourage and engage children and young people to participate in dance
To build self-esteem and confidence.
To develop pupils physical abilities and raise activity levels.
To motivate participants.
To develop communication, life and team skills.
We provide Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools with a unique and specially tailored dance provision that will lead pupils on a journey of movement discovery. In doing this the individual needs of each pupil can be met and they can learn a new skill, express feelings and emotions and have fun!
The LODT ethos is dance for all, and our unique approach allows us to be truly inclusive and allows the opportunity to show measurable progression within movement practice. We have seen first hand just how beneficial our work can be, especially with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties pupils.
Level 1 Award in Language of Dance Movement Exploration
A short specialist course, BTEC in Language of Dance Motif Notation has been ran at Brockenhurst College from September 2009- 2012. Although, over the previous six years, special educational needs (SEN) students have been experiencing this approach to creative movement, the BTEC, tailour-made for Brockenhurst College, gave them the opportunity to gain a qualification accredited by a recognised awarding body. Last year, 12 SEN students were entered for and awarded the Level 1 BTEC in Language of Dance Motif Notation.

In order to develop an accessible award and allow it to be placed into other schools and colleges we have now had Level 1 in Language of Dance Movement Exploration accredited through awarding body NCFE as a customised award. Teachers are now able to train with us and then deliver this course in their schools/college allowing their students to gain a qualification in Language of Dance.
